Hoover Climb To Remember Honors First Responders Killed On 9/11

HOOVER, AL — The Hoover Police Department, Hoover Fire Department and the City of Hoover are honoring New York City police officers and firefighters who died as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center by holding the Hoover Climb to Remember event.

The inaugural stair climb event is set for Saturday, April 4 on the Riverchase Galleria Mall campus at 10 a.m. The climb will begin after an opening ceremony in the stairwell of 3000 Riverchase Galleria (formerly known as the Riverchase Galleria Office Tower).

"While it is not a completion or competitive 'race,' the climb is a way to honor the New York City firefighters and police officers who selflessly gave their lives during the terror attacks on the U.S. on September 11, 2001," said Officer Brian Hale of the Hoover Police Department. "Each participant pays tribute to a FDNY firefighter by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center."

Climbers will be comprised of the general public, area firefighters and police officers who would like to honor those first responders who lost their lives. Registration is $40 for climbers. Supporters may attend for free. The money raised will go to support the Hoover Public Safety Charity Foundation.
