Hoover Met Hosting Taste of Louisiana Food Festival & Cook-Off Saturday
The Taste of Louisiana Food Festival & Cook-Off this Saturday benefits the Sid Strong Foundation.

HOOVER, AL - If Hoover starts sounding a little like New Orleans this weekend, there is a reason for that. The LSU Alumni of Birmingham have organized the Taste of Louisiana Food Festival and Cook-off at the Hoover Met Saturday, an event full of Cajun cuisine sponsored by Cajun Steamers, with a competition sponsored by Wind Creek Casino and Hotel.
Proceeds will benefit the Sid Strong Foundation, in honor of Mountain Brook teen Sid Ortis, who passed away last year after a bout with pediatric bone cancer. The foundation raises money to fund as many new and existing pediatric cancer research laboratories as possible. Donated funds are utilized to maintain annual lab operations, bring in additional researchers and study new cancer cell lines like the ones currently being studied by Dr. Joseph G. Pressey at Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati that were harvested from Sid’s tumor. Supporting both new and existing cancer research facilitates the discovery and development of new therapies which improve overall patient quality of life and ultimately will lead to cures for pediatric cancer.
Area restaurants and individual teams will compete for best Cajun dish. Music and dancing will be provided by The Birmingham Cajun Zydeco Association. The event will also include a Kid Zone, auction and raffle. Tickets are $15 (children 12 and under are free) and can be purchased at Cajun Steamer Bar & Grill, lsubirmingham.org or at the gate.
