SBI Investigating Domestic Shooting Involving HPD Officer

HOOVER, AL - Police are investigating a domestic shooting involving a Hoover police officer. Reports said the off-duty officer's wife sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to UAB hospital with injuries.

Although the report does not specifically say if the officer shot his wife, the report by the State Bureau of Investigation said the officer and his wife were involved in a domestic dispute and were "wrestling over a handgun when it fired."

The officer's wife sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. The officer was detained by Hoover police until Jefferson County sheriff deputies arrived at the scene, the SBI said. The SBI said it also responded to the scene and will be the primary investigating agency.

Hoover police said in a statement that the officer will be placed on administrative leave pending outcome of the investigation.
