Hoover PD To Participate In National Prescription Drug Take Back
Dispose of unused and expired medication safely this Saturday at the Hoover Police Department.

HOOVER, AL — The national initiative started by the DEA in 2010 has been a successful campaign to address the problem with improperly discarded prescription drugs, and the Hoover Police Department has been an avid participant of the initiative for years.
Saturday, October 26 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and residents can dispose of unused and expired medications - both prescribed and over-the-counter - at the Hoover Police Department between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

- Needles or other sharps
- Asthma inhalers
- Mercury thermometers
- Iodine-containing medications
- Illicit drugs or substances (including marijuana which is still a schedule 1 drug under federal law), and any prescription medications obtained illegally.
Now, for the first time, DEA will also accept vaping devices and cartridges at any of its drop off locations.
At the last Take-Back Day in April, more than 6,250 sites across the nation collected unwanted or expired medications totaling 937,443 pounds (468.72 tons). The total amount of prescription drugs collected by DEA since the fall of 2010 is 11,816,393 lbs. (5,908.2 tons).
