HOOVER, AL - School Resource Officers are a relatively new addition to police forces in the last decade or so, and their jobs are often so widespread that it becomes difficult to measure just how important they are not only to the schools they serve but to their departments. One SRO, however, has been recognized for his service, as Hoover PD SRO Chris Bryant was awarded the Regional Exceptional Service Award yesterday at the National Association of School Resource Officers national conference in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

The award was presented as a result of Bryant’s “continuous and sustained service to the school community above and beyond that normally expected of an SRO.”

A statement by the HPD said of Bryant, "Anyone that knows Officer Bryant knows that this comes as no surprise. When he speaks about the students at Hoover High School, he usually refers to them as 'my kids.' He goes out of his way to build relationships with all of the students and enjoys spending time with them. One of his favorite things to do during his day is stopping by to spend time with some of the special needs students. Each one knows him by name and looks forward to the smile and high five that he brings."
