Hoover Restaurant Owner Charged With Arson In Tuscaloosa

Hoover resident Derrick Maddox owner of Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes and Fries, has been charged with arson after his Tuscaloosa restaurant burned.

TUSCALOOSA, AL - Hoover resident and restaurant owner Derrick Maddox has been charged with arson by Tuscaloosa police after his Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes and Fries location in Tuscaloosa caught fire Tuesday night.

According to court records, Maddox told investigators that stress with with family and the restaurant drove him to the point he was "done with it."

Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue said the fire resulted in extensive damage to the interior and began just prior to 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

A report from ABC 33/40 said Maddox poured 10 gallons of gas on the restaurant floor Tuesday. He had gotten a call from his manager that none of the employees showed up, so Maddox left the side of his ailing mother to help his manager. The manager left the job as soon as he arrived.

The Tuscaloosa Fire Marshal’s Office and Tuscaloosa Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident. Maddox was released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

Maddox, a 17-year resident of Hoover, opened a Hoover location of Hwy 55 in March this year.
