Hoover Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested In Standoff In Birmingham
A 32-year-old man wanted in Hoover for sexual assault was arrested after an hours long standoff at a southwest Birmingham home.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A man wanted in Hoover for home invasion and sexual assault was arrested Thursday after a long standoff with police. The suspect, 32-year-old Mario Derrell Slaughter, was taken into custody by Birmingham police late Thursday afternoon at 3533 45th Street S.W.
Hoover police had been searching for Slaughter after a Wednesday morning home invasion at the 3600 building of The Willows Apartments off of Lorna Road. The victim reported at approximately 3 a.m., she awoke to find a black male standing in the hallway of her residence, said Hoover Lt. Keith Czeskleba.
He reportedly told her that he had a gun and threatened to harm her if she did not comply with his demands. The suspect reportedly took items from the victim’s purse and then sexually assaulted her before ordering her to leave the apartment with him.

The report by Hoover PD said the suspect forced the victim to drive him to Bessemer where he made her stop at a convenience store. The suspect then reportedly ordered the victim to drive him to another location in Bessemer, where he exited her vehicle. She immediately returned to Hoover to report the crime.

A report by Alabama Media Group said Slaughter was wanted for discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and two counts of third-degree receiving stolen property in Jefferson County, one count of first-degree receiving stolen property out of Shelby County, and burglary and theft out of Chilton County.
