2 January Shootings In Hoover: 1 Death, 1 Arrest

HOOVER, AL — A teenager was killed in a shooting at a Hoover apartment complex early Friday morning.

Hoover police said the shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. at The Woods of Hoover apartment complex on Galleria Woods Drive. Officers found the victim, 19-year-old Kristopher Michael Shelly, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

He was taken to UAB Hospital by Hoover fire medics and was died at the hospital Saturday afternoon.

Detectives are working to determine a motive in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Drew Mims at 205-739-7274.

The shooting Friday was the second this month ion Hoover. A Jan. 6 shooting occurred just after 9:30 p.m. near the 100 building at The Park at Wakefield and Wellington apartments, resulting in one victim being hospitalized.

Emmanuel Dion Leonard of Stone Mountain, Ga., was arrested Friday by members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and charged with attempted murder in the shooting.
