Jags and Bucs Both Playoff Bound
Hoover and Spain Park each will extend their seasons after Spain Park's victory Friday secured the Jags a playoff spot.
HOOVER, AL - Both Hoover high schools will play beyond the regular football seasons this year, thanks to a Spain Park victory Friday night against Tuscaloosa County. The Jags' 24-19 win in Tuscaloosa Friday put them at 5-3 on the season and 3-3 in Class 7A, Region 3 and secures the region’s fourth playoff spot. Thompson, Hoover and Mountain Brook have secured the other three spots.
Hoover beat area foe Vestavia Hills Friday night 17-7, improving to 7-1 on the season and 6-0 in area play. Hoover hosts top-ranked Thompson this Friday in a game that will determine the area champion.
The Jags relied heavily on running back D’Arie Johnson Friday night, as Johnson racked up 248 yards on the ground on just 22 carries. The Jaguars will host Oak Mountain (3-5, 1-5) for the final Region 3 game of the season next Friday, Oct. 27.
