Joggers Help Capture Vehicle Burglary Suspects

Joggers on Riverchase Parkway stopped a potential car theft by tackling a suspect and waiting for police to arrive.

HOOVER, AL - A car theft was thwarted Tuesday morning by some joggers on Riverchase Parkway after they reportedly tackled two suspects they saw attempting to break into a car. The two suspects are in custody now.

According to a report by Hoover PD, on Tuesday morning at 4:57 a.m.., Hoover police responded to the 1000 block of Riverchase Parkway West on a report of a vehicle burglary in progress. The victim stated that he and two friends were on an early morning run when they caught a white male rummaging through the trunk of the victim’s vehicle.

The suspect attempted to run away but was captured and detained by the victim and his friends. Officers arrived on scene and arrested the suspect without further incident. The suspect’s vehicle was located in front of the victim’s residence and a female passenger was also arrested, according to the report. Both suspects were transported to the Hoover City Jail.

The Hoover Police Department said investigators recovered property taken from the Riverchase victim’s vehicle as well as property from other car break-ins in the metro area.

Gregory Alan Trott, 43, of Birmingham, and Brianna Martinae Ross, 27, of Birmingham were charged with Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle. Additional charges are possible against Trott and Ross. Both suspects are currently in the Shelby County Jail on $5,000 bond.
