Shelby County Shooting: Arrest Made In Nov. 25 Incident

The Shelby County Sheriff's office has made an arrest in a shooting near Montevallo Nov. 25.

SHELBY COUNTY, AL — An altercation between two men led to a fatal shooting in Shelby County on Monday, Nov.25, according to law enforcement, and an arrest has been made in the case. Derious Garner, 31, of Montevallo has been taken into custody and charged with murder.

A report from the Shelby County Sheriff's office said Derious Garner and Derius Fields were in an altercation that escalated to gunfire, and Garner shot and killed Fields.

Investigators said another person at the scene, who legally possessed a firearm and valid pistol permit, exchanged gunfire with Garner and wounded him. Garner then reportedly fled the scene and was later found in need of medical treatment. He was then taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Garner has been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. He has also been charged with two counts of receiving stolen property. He is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $1,010,000.
