Spain Park Captures State Championship

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Spain Park Lady Jaguars captured their first ever state basketball title Saturday with a 56-26 win over McGill-Toolen in the Class 7A state championship game.

The Jags were led by Clare Holt, named the tournament MVP, who had 20 points, and Sarah Ashlee Barker who scored 12 points and recorded nine rebounds. Barker was named to the all-tournament team.

The Lady Jags scored 23 points in the second quarter after scoring just seven in the first. This put Spain Park ahead 30-10, and the game was essentially over from there. Defense was the other big factor in the Jags championship win, as they forced McGill-Toolen to commit a whopping 20 turnovers.

Spain Park finishes the season with a 31-6 record.
