Suspect Charged In Hoover Convenience Store Burglaries

The Hoover Police Department has charged a suspect relating to a pair of convenience store burglaries committed earlier in the year.

HOOVER, AL - The Hoover Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a pair of convenience store burglaries - one happening in January this year and the other in March. Joshua Magaul Sanders, 23, was arrested yesterday morning by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office on similar charges, and the Hoover PD collaborated with other agencies and were able to identify the suspect.

According to a release from the Hoover PD, officers responded to a burglary call on January 29 to the Exxon station located at 2270 John Hawkins Parkway. Surveillance footage showed Sanders smash the front door glass and enter the store carrying a garbage bag. He then placed several cartons of cigarettes in the bag and then threw the cash register to the ground in an attempt to break it open. Reports say he fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.

On March 1, the Shell Station located at 3401 South Shades Crest Road was burglarized. A Hoover PD report stated that responding officers discovered the front door glass was shattered and the cash register was on the floor. Surveillance footage showed Sanders enter the store with a garbage bag and begin placing cartons of cigarettes in it. Like the January burglary, he then threw the cash register to the ground and attempted to break into an office before fleeing the area. In both cases, the suspect was wearing dark pants, a hooded sweatshirt, a mask, and gloves.
