The top-ranked Hoover baseball team will host 7A rival Hewitt-Trussville in the first round of the AHSAA playoffs Friday.

HOOVER, AL - The Hoover High School baseball team looks to defend its state championship and takes its number 1 ranking into the AHSAA playoffs Friday as they host 2016 state champion Hewitt-Trussville. A doubleheader is set for Friday at 5 p.m., with a third game to be played Saturday if necessary.
Hoover won the area championship last week with two wins over Tuscaloosa County on the strength of a dazzling pitching performance by Scott Elgin and the big bats of Nick Davis, Sonny DiChiara, Nolan Hammonds, Daniel Swatek and Alex Baty.
Hoover is 33-8 on the season, and is the favorite to repeat as champions in this year's tournament.
