Two Hoover PD K9s Receive Posthumous Recognition
The Hoover Police Department honored the lives and service of two Hoover PD K9s that passed away in 2018.
HOOVER, AL — The Hoover Police Department last week honored two former officers, close to a year after their deaths, with plaques recognizing their service. These officers are not your ordinary police officers, however. They are K9 officers Hans and Tank, police dogs who each served on the Hoover PD Bomb Squad.
Chief Nicholas Derzis presented plaques to officers Lee Love and Mike Davis to recognize the lives of their K9 partners in a small ceremony.
Love was Hans’ handler and human partner for all 10 years of his service (2007-2017) to the City of Hoover. "Hans had a distinguished career and was loved by every member of the Hoover Police Department," said the HPD in a statement. "Because of his personality and demeanor around people, he was a beloved member of the Hoover community as well."

Davis was Tank’s handler and human partner for the four years that he was a part of the Hoover PD family (2013-2017). Like Hans, Tank was a beloved member of not only the PD, but the Hoover community as well. "We were extremely fortunate to acquire Tank," the HPD said. "He was a combat Marine and did two tours in Afghanistan back in 2009-11."
Two plaques in their memory will be placed in our Police Operations building on Lorna Road.
