Woman Killed After Train Hits Vehicle In Hoover

A 35-year-old woman was killed when a vehicle in which she was a passenger was struck by a train in Hoover Saturday.

HOOVER, AL - A 35-year-old woman was killed Saturday when a vehicle in which she was a passenger was struck by a train near the Lake Wilburn neighborhood in Hoover. Alex Lyndsey Newman was one of three occupants of the vehicle, and died in surgery at UAB Hospital.

A statement by the Hoover Police Department said Hoover Police and Fire responded to the incident at Elvira Road at 3:44 p.m. Saturday. Officers arrived to find a red 2012 Kia Sportage overturned and three patients outside of the vehicle. All three crash victims were transported to UAB hospital by Hoover Fire and Rescue. The other two victims are still in the hospital but are expected to survive.

The preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was traveling north on Elvira Road when it was struck in the passenger side by a CSX train headed west. The Hoover Police Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate to determine what factors lead to this crash.
