1. Recently retired city official called 'driving force' behind Huntsville's economic success (al.com) — Huntsville leaders are highlighting how retiring Urban and Economic Development Director Shane Davis helped land major employers like Mazda Toyota, Polaris, and Eli Lilly, and shaped big projects from the Northern Bypass to downtown's Skybridge corridor. His work on housing, infrastructure, and job growth across north, east, and downtown Huntsville will continue influencing neighborhoods and the city's economy long after his departure.

2. City departments reorganization 'smacks of cronyism,' Huntsville councilman says (al.com) — Huntsville's City Council narrowly approved Mayor Tommy Battle's reorganization of several departments, filling five leadership posts and slightly increasing salary costs despite a tight 2027 budget. Two council members opposed parts of the plan, raising concerns about fairness, qualifications, and shifting funds away from nonprofits, while new roles will oversee engineering, economic development, external affairs, and community services.

3. New section of the North Huntsville Greenway now in the works (hvilleblast.com) — Huntsville has approved an engineering agreement to design Segment C of the North Huntsville Greenway, adding about 4,500 feet of trail plus two pedestrian bridges and a new trailhead between Holmes and Pratt avenues. The project, expected to take about two years, will help connect Downtown Huntsville to Alabama A&M University and is modeled in part on Atlanta's BeltLine-style greenway network.

4. Space Camp receives Challenger-7 Recognition (waff.com) — Huntsville's Space Camp has been honored with the Challenger-7 Recognition, celebrating its work inspiring future explorers in the spirit of the Challenger shuttle crew. As the camp approaches its 45th anniversary in 2027, leaders say the award highlights how its immersive programs change young lives and reinforce Huntsville's role in space education.

5. DJI Neo 3 Unboxing Leak, 71,207-Drone Record, FAA $12M, FBI School (dronexl.co) — Huntsville's National Counter-UAS Training Center is set to more than double its capacity in its second year, expanding FBI-led training for officers who can legally take down dangerous drones. After handling over 700 unauthorized drones around World Cup events, the program aims to graduate 250 more officers next fiscal year, further cementing Huntsville's role in national security and aviation safety.
