🌱 Christmas Tree Shortage + Greekfest Is Underway + 19 Arrests

Happy Saturday, neighbors! Let's get this day started. Here's what's happening around town today.

First, today's weather:

Here are the top stories today in Mobile:

  1. The Optimist Club won't sell Christmas trees in Mobile for the first time in 80-plus years because of tree shortage. The popular lot at the corner of Virginia and Ann Streets won't sell trees because of a national tree shortage due to a clogged supply chain during this pandemic. Paul Carter with Mobile's Optimist Club said he called hundreds of vendors to try and round up trees so they didn't have to cancel but the closest they could secure was just 60-80 trees, when typically they buy a thousand to sell.   2. Mobile's annual Greekfest is underway at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church along South Ann Street. As was the case last year, the celebration is being limited to drive-thru food pickup only. The drive-thru entrance this year is off Azalea street by the church. Greekfest continues Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. (NBC 15 WPMI)
  3. In Operation Safe Streets, the Mobile Police Department Narcotics and Vice Unit conducted a four-month operation involving 19 people being arrested. The operation took place in the area of the Third Precinct. Of the number of people arrested, eight were targets. A total of nine search warrants were executed. During the operation, Mobile police seized marijuana, heroin, fentanyl, crack cocaine, and firearms. (Press Release Desk)
