🌱 Homeless To Be Paid To Pick Up Litter + Gayfers Building Project
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Mobile.

Hello, everybody! I'm back in your inbox this summer morning with your new copy of the Mobile Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in town...
First, today's weather:
Very hot. High: 101 Low: 80.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Mobile who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Mobile Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:
- The Mobile City Council has approved a proposal meant to pay homeless individuals to pick up litter. The contract will be through Ransom Ministries. The organization will recruit, train, and transport homeless individuals throughout the city to clean litter along roadsides. There will be a 60-day trial period for the program. (Fox 10 News)
- The Mobile City Council has unanimously voted to not allocate $8 million to an affordable housing development plan at the old Gayfers department store building. The plan received public pushback due to its location downtown. The plan would have made 95 affordable housing units out of the department store. It is unclear what will now happen to the building. (AL.com)
- Two jail inmates are in the clinic after a fire occurred at the Mobile Metro Jail. According to the Mobile County Sherriff's Office, the fire was started by a welder repairing a broken window grating. 83 inmates were relocated. (WKRG News 5)
