Hurricane Nate: University Of South Alabama Closes
Students who live on campus can remain in their residence halls and the dining hall will open as regularly scheduled.

MOBILE, AL — The University of South Alabama canceled all classes, labs and student activities on its main campus in Mobile and all of its campuses in Baldwin County, the university said on its website. Classes were canceled Saturday, Sunday and Monday ahead of the expected arrival of Hurricane Nate, which swirled in the Gulf Coast Saturday afternoon and was expected to make landfall Saturday night.
The Marx Library, Student Center and Student Recreation Center will also remain closed, the university said. Students who live on campus can remain in their residence halls and the dining hall will open as regularly scheduled. Campus police, residence hall staff and maintenance workers will also be on campus and the student health center will be open for normal hours Monday.

All non-essential university offices will be closed Monday. USA Health’s hospitals and clinics will operate on normal schedules. The university expects to resume normal operations Tuesday, though students and workers should keep an eye on their email accounts for updates.

Gov. Kay Ivey declared a state of emergency for Alabama effective Friday in anticipation of Nate's arrival, and city officials along Alabama's coast are taking safety measures. The National Weather Service reported at 1 p.m. Saturday that winds will increase this evening into Sunday morning across southwest Alabama, which will bring with it massive power outages throughout the state.
