Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:

  1. Mobile man Robert Doyle Hickman has been identified as the victim of a fatal airplane accident at Bay Minette Airport. On Friday, Hickman's small single-engine plane taxied off the tarmac onto rough terrain, causing the plane to overturn, according to Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert. The victim's dog was also on board, though not injured in the accident. Chief Tolbert reports the incident is under investigation with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration. (Fox 10 News)
  2. A lockdown alarm mistakenly sounded at the University of South Alabama on Monday, causing brief confusion among students and staff. Amid rumors of an active shooter situation spreading via social media Monday morning, an alarm was accidentally deployed later that afternoon. Within minutes, the school sent a mass message explaining the incident, stating the alarm was inadvertently set up during scheduled maintenance updates. (WKRG News 5)
  3. This past weekend, the Little Flower Catholic Church held its own version of "The Masked Singer" as part of a fundraiser. During the annual "Leprechauns at the Loop" event, several members of the Little Flower congregation sang before a sold-out crowd, their identities hidden. The performance, as well as a fish fry and auction, served to raise funds for the church and school that serves midtown Mobile. (NBC 15 WPMI)
