🌱 MPD Safety Checkpoints + Changes At Mobile Animal Shelter

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Mobile.

(Patch Media)

Get on up, Mobile! It's Thursday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on around town today.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and delightful. High: 61 Low: 50.

Here are the top 3 stories in Mobile today:

  1. Drivers traveling through Mobile last night likely encountered one of the four police safety checkpoints that were set up throughout the city. The checkpoints, which were set up in Precincts One through Four, began at 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 22 and went until midnight. Mobile Police asked all drivers going through the checkpoints to show their driver's license, proof of insurance, and a valid tag, and investigated anything that gave them "probable cause." (WKRG News 5)
  2. The new director of the Mobile Animal Shelter knows there are problems at the shelter, and they are working on solutions. Ali Rellinger has been trying to improve the shelter since it transitioned from Mobile Police management to management by the new Animal Service Department. She says they will be implementing new software solutions and management strategies to "respond and address concerns in the community more quickly." (WKRG News 5)
  3. A porch pirate was caught on a home security camera in West Mobile snatching a child's Christmas present, just days before the holiday. The homeowner, who lives in the Huntleigh Woods subdivision, says her home has been targeted four times by porch pirates and put up a Ring doorbell camera to deter criminals. She is hoping somebody will recognize the woman caught on video and turn her in. (FOX10 News)
