Here are the top three stories in Mobile today:
- The City of Mobile is scheduled to receive nearly $5 billion from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The funds will be used to purchase new Wave Transit buses; the FTA has not announced yet when the new fleet will arrive in Mobile. The cash infusion comes as part of a countrywide initiative by President Biden and the FTA, which awarded over $400 million in grants to 70 projects across 39 states. (WKRG News 5)
- A new emergency department is expected to provide healthcare access to an estimated 15,000 people in West Mobile. USA Health recently opened a free-standing department for patients in the West Mobile area, which will also be used for training of resident physicians with the University of South Alabama. The emergency department, open 24/7 at 181 Hillcrest Road, is available for both emergency care and routine healthcare needs. (WKRG News 5)
- The Mobile Police Department has released additional information regarding a Sunday shooting on Kibby Street. The female victim got in an argument with the suspect, Levernon Wallace, that escalated into a physical altercation. Officials report the woman pulled out a gun, which Wallace grabbed and fired. The suspect has been arrested for robbery. (Fox 10 News)
