  1. Family members of a slain high school student protested outside of Mobile circuit court Tuesday morning, stating the plea agreement for defendant Billy Southammavong is too lenient. Southammavong was charged with the 2017 stabbing of Gaige Taylor, who died during the fight at a dirt pit off Theodore Dawes Road. Three other juvenile victims were involved but suffered non-life-threatening injuries. (utv44.com)
  2. On November 2, the Dumas Wesley Community Center announced the launching of a new initiative to help underserved youth. The "Closing the Opportunity Gap" initiative will provide underserved children with access to after-school programming, summer recreation programs, and emotional, social and career readiness support. The initiative is funded by the Community Foundation of South Alabama (CFSA). (WKRG News 5)
