Here are the top stories in Mobile today:
- On Saturday, skateboarders of all ages competed in the first-ever "Battle Down South" competition at Public Safety Memorial Park. Prizes were awarded to the top three contenders in each age category. Organizers hope to make this an annual event. (FOX10 News)
- Mae Eanes Middle School has been closed for five years and it will soon be converted into an affordable housing development. Asbestos is being removed from the school currently, and demolition is scheduled to begin next week, with construction set in March. The first phase will involve 96 units, with a second phase planned that will have 56 units for senior citizens. (FOX10 News)
- Firefighters extinguished an overnight house fire in Mobile early on Saturday morning in the 3200 block of Center Road; the house was empty and no one was injured, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. (WKRG News 5)
- After a brand-new Mobile hair salon was robbed and set on fire, the owner moved the business to a pop-up shop at Charles Academy and says that it is all thanks to the support of the community. Mobile Police and Fire Rescue are still investigating. (WKRG News 5)
