Jeanette Manzie, mother of the late Mobile City Council President Levon Manzie, wants to serve out the remainder of her son’s term and “fight along with him and his memory” during next week’s runoff election. The 63-year-old candidate was announced by Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson as his selection to serve on the Mobile City Council until Nov. 1, when the new council will be seated. Levon Manzie passed away at age 38 on Sept. 18 after a battle with kidney disease. (AL.com)
  2. Three Mobile, Alabama schools have been named among the top 25 best private high schools in the state. Based on data from the U.S. Department of Education, St. Paul’s Episcopal School (No. 6), UMS-Wright Preparatory School (No. 7), and St. Luke’s Episcopal School (No. 25) rank highest in test scores, college data, and user reviews on Niche.   3. On Monday, the federal trial began for an accused Mobile cop killer, Marco Perez. He is facing federal charges including possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. (WKRG News 5)
  4. More than 125 works of public art will be featured on the North Alabama Mural Trail, which encourages everyone to travel across the region and view incredible street art paintings while learning about the history of local cities and communities. (WAAY 31)
