Here are the top 3 stories today in Mobile:
- The popular convenience store chain Wawa has announced plans to open stores in Mobile. The new locations are part of the company's ongoing expansion project, which includes building 40 new stores along the Gulf Coast. The East Coast chain opened its first store in the south 10 years ago in Orlando. (Fox 10 News)
- Mobile Fire-Rescue responded to the scene of a crash involving an 18-wheeler on Tuesday. Officials say the incident occurred on Ari Court near Springhill Avenue after the truck hit a power pole during an attempted turn. Crews began restoring power to the area shortly before noon on Tuesday. (WKRG News 5)
- Several public housing units at Thomas James Place and RV Taylor Plaza are set to be demolished next year. While the Mobile Housing Authority has received federal approval to tear the units down, the group is petitioning for some of the buildings to be restored in order to limit the number of households forced to relocate for the project. According to Executive Director Michael Pierce, any proceeds from selling the land made available as a result of the demolitions will go back into public housing projects. (UTV 44)
