Football Playoffs Round 1: Keep Up On The Patch Scoreboard
The Birmingham metro is sending 20 area schools to the AHSAA football playoffs this year, and the action kicks off Thursday.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The 2018 Alabama High School Athletic Association football playoffs are upon us, and nearly two dozen Birmingham-area schools are playing in the first round - which begins Thursday night.
Tarrant hosts Colbert County Thursday night, while the rest of the area teams vying for a state title kick off Friday.

In Class 7A, only two area teams are playing at home, as Hoover looks to defend its state championship at the Hoover Met against Bob Jones and Thompson hosts Florence. Mountain Brook travels to Austin, and Hewitt-Trussville goes to James Clemens.
Pinson Valley looks to defend its 6A state title as the Indians host Albertville. Also playing at home in Round 1 are Homewood (v.s. Athens), Hueytown (against Eufaula), Clay-Chalkville (v.s. Jemison-Huntsville); Jackson-Olin (against Decatur); and McAdory (v.s. Carver-Montgomery).

Bessemer City plays at Park Crossing, Pelham travels to Hartselle and Minor plays at Muscle Shoals.
In 5A action, Ramsay hosts Henderson and Briarwood hosts Valley. Fairfield plays at Greenville and Center Point plays at Russellville.
