Former Spartan Ford Clegg Is SEC Freshman Golfer Of The Week
Now a golfer at Mississippi State, former MBHS standout Ford Clegg was named SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week.

STARKVILLE, MS - Just last year, Mississippi State men's golf freshman and Mountain Brook High School alumnus Ford Clegg was leading MBHS to a state championship. This week, Clegg was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Golfer of the Week after he captured his fourth consecutive top-15 finish Sunday at the Schenkel Invitational. A week earlier, Clegg earned a third place effort at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, good for a career-best finish.
Clegg is the first Bulldog golfer since Chad Ramey in 2014, to earn a weekly SEC award, and just the sixth in program history. One of two golfers to play in all seven of MSU's 2018-19 tournaments, Clegg has carded a 71.71 stroke average so far this season and four of State's 14 top-15 finishes.

Clegg's four top-15 finishes rank second among SEC freshmen, behind only Georgia's Trent Phillips, who has six. At the Schenkel, where MSU took fourth place as a team, Clegg shot a 1-under 215, aided by a 69 in Friday's opening round. Clegg helped the Golf Dawgs win at Desert Mountain a week prior with a 5-under-211, which tied a career-low 54-hole total.
Clegg is likely to be listed on the scorecard when the MSU begins play at its third tournament in as many weeks Saturday at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. MSU is set to play three more regular season events this spring before the SEC Championship in late April.
