With 10 seconds remaining in the game, and the Spartans having scored a touchdown to make the score 10-9, Mountain Brook needed a two-point conversion to win. The play was supposed to be a reverse pass, but the Huskies penetrated the line and disrupted the play, causing a fumble to roll roughly 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage. That was when Wright picked up the fumble and heaved a pass — without looking for a specific receiver — into the end zone.
Jake Thompson came down with the desperation heave to give the Spartans the 11-10 lead.
