MBHS Names New Principal

Mountain Brook High School named a new principal Tuesday, and it is a familiar face to most Spartans.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - Mountain Brook City Schools announced Tuesday that a new principal has been named for Mountain Brook High School.

At its May 21 meeting, the school board voted to appoint Philip Holley as the new principal, and Holley is a familiar face at MBHS. Holley is currently the Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at the high school. He has 19 years teaching experience and 16 years of experience coaching students in football, basketball, baseball, softball and soccer.

After several years teaching in area high schools, Holley first joined Mountain Brook Schools as a science teacher and assistant coach at Mountain Brook Junior High, where he remained for 11 years. Subsequently, he served two schools outside the district - Riverchase Elementary School and Vestavia Hills High School - as assistant principal. He returned to Mountain Brook Schools in 2016 to serve as the assistant principal at MBHS.

Holley earned his B.S. in Secondary Education at Auburn, his Masters of Arts in Secondary Education at UAB, and his Masters of Arts in Education, emphasis in Educational Leadership, also at UAB. In 2011, he received the Margaret Spencer Ragland Award for excellence in teaching. He was a nominee for Alabama Teacher of the Year in 2010, and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2005.
