Mountain Brook Property Tax Vote Results: Increase Passes
Voters in Mountain Brook approved a 10 mill property tax increase - with 65 percent approving of the raise.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — Voters in Mountain Brook approved a property tax increase Tuesday, as 65 percent of voters opted to approve the 10 mill increase. The added tax revenue would go toward Mountain Brook City Schools.
Mountain Brook's millage rate is already at 99 mills, and the proposed increase will add $6 million to the school system every year, which will go toward capital projects and improvements in school safety, mental health services and professional development opportunities.
Residents will begin paying higher property taxes in 2020. The funds will enable Mountain Brook Schools to make about $60 million in improvements over the next 16 to 20 years.

A facilities audit in 2018 concluded Mountain Brook schools require significant upgrades, as the youngest school is 50 years old.
