Police Standoff In Mountain Brook Ends After More Than 5 Hours

A 36-year-old man barricaded himself in his home on Dunbarton in a standoff with police.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - A police standoff with a 36-year-old man ended after nearly six hours on Dunbarton Drive in Mountain Brook Saturday night. The man reportedly was taken away from the scene in an ambulance.

The incident began just after 4 p.m., when Mountain Brook police responded to the home in the Brookwood Forest neighborhood. The suspect had reportedly doused the home with gasoline and was holding a box of matches.

Neighbors reported shots fired, but there has been no report of what started the standoff or who, if anyone, was in the house with the man.

The standoff ended peacefully with the suspect surrendering. A Mountain Brook Fire Department commander says the man was transported to a hospital to be evaluated.
