Spartans Boys Golf Team Ranked 3rd In The Nation

The Mountain Brook High School boys golf team captured the 7A state championship, which landed the Spartans third in a national poll.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - The Mountain Brook boys golf team captured the 7A state championship this week, which caught the eye of a national poll, listing the Spartans third in the country.

The Spartans shot a 13-under 275 in round two of the 80th annual AHSAA State Golf Championships today to finish 32 strokes under par with a team total 544 to win the Class 7A boys title over rival and defending state champion Spain Park.

William Wann and Gordon Sargent tied for the low medalist honors with 36-hole totals of 11-under 133. Sargent followed Monday’s 64 with a 3-under 69 and Wann shot a 67 Monday and a 66, the lowest 7A round of the tournament. Both tied the state tourney record for 36 holes.

The National High School Golf Association has the Spartans ranked No. 3 in its final poll, behind Highland Park High School in Texas and Gaffney High School in South Carolina.
