Spartans To Face Grissom In Sweet Sixteen

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - The Mountain Brook Spartans took a big step toward defending their basketball state title this weekend, defeating Huffman 70-66 in the 7A Area 6 finals. The Spartans are now on their way to the state playoffs round of 16 in Jacksonville, where they will face Grissom Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Mountain Brook will face former Spartans assistant coach Stu Stuedeman, who has taken over as the head coach for the 15-13 Grissom Tigers.

The Spartans are 30-4, and defeated Huffman Saturday behind 30 points from tournament MVP Trendon Watford. This was the Spartans' 11th area championship.
