Spartans Fall Short Of Fourth Straight State Championship

Mountain Brook came up two points short in the state championship game against Lee-Montgomery.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — No school has dominated 7A boys basketball the way Mountain Brook has, but the Spartans were unable to add to that legacy Saturday, falling two points short of capturing their fourth straight state basketball title. Mountain Brook lost 40-38 win against Lee-Montgomery.

Lee tied the score at the end of the third quarter and took the lead with under 5 minutes to play. The Spartans were unable to regain the lead the remainder of the game.

The Spartans were paced by 14 points from Carter Sobera, while Holt Bashinsky led the Spartans in rebounds with five.

Mountain Brook finished the season with a 31-3 record.
