Spartans Hoops Teams Begin Season On High Note
The Mountain Brook girls and boys basketball teams hosted the Spartan Turkey Jam tournaments and both captured tournament titles.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - Basketball season has begun in Mountain Brook, and both the girls and boys teams for MBHS started the season in impressive fashion. Mountain Brook hosted the Spartan Turkey Jam tournaments early last week and both Spartans teams came away with tournament titles.
The boys team, looking to defend its state championship, beat South Cobb 74-40 in the semifinals, then In the final on Tuesday, finished the tournament with a 57-41 win over St. Pius X. Trendon Watford posted a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds in the final. Colby Jones and Lior Berman had 16 and 10 points, respectively, and Alex Washington scored eight.
The girls defeated Gardendale, then notched a 53-46 overtime win over Shades Valley last Monday. Whitton Bumgarner led the Spartans with 17 points in the game, followed by Ann Vandevelde, who scored 16. Mountain Brook won the championship on Tuesday with a 51-40 win over Central-Tuscaloosa.
