Spartans' Quest For Third Straight State Title Continues

Mountain Brook will look to win their third state basketball title in a row Saturday at the BJCC.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The dominance by Mountain Brook basketball has been nothing short of amazing in the last seven years, and that dominance may be dubbed a dynasty this year, as the Spartans will play in the state finals again this year in a quest for their third straight championship.

Mountain Brook defeated third-ranked Lee-Montgomery 59-48 in the Class 7A semifinal game on Thursday. Senior Alex Washington hit four three-pointers in the third quarter to help the Spartans pull away. Washington led all Spartans scorers with 19 points - with 14 in the second half alone.

Mountain Brook's Trendon Watford scored 14 points and added 13 rebounds and four steals for the Spartans, who improved to 30-3 on the season.

Mountain Brook moves on to play the winner of the Baker v. Hoover game in the championship Saturday.

No team has won three straight state titles in 7A or 6A play in AHSAA history.
