Spartans Win Third Straight Girls Tennis Championship
Mountain Brook captured its 28th girls state tennis championship Tuesday in the AHSAA tournament.
MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - No matter how often it has happened - and it has happened often at Mountain Brook - a state championship is always sweet. The Mountain Brook High School girls tennis team won its third straight tennis championship Tuesday, and its 28th state title in the team's history.
The Spartans accumulated 53 points and finished 13 points ahead of runner-up Vestavia Hills.
Mountain Brook’s Emma Karcher downed Maggie Nelson of Vestavia Hills 7-5, 6-3 to claim the No. 1 singles championship. Karcher finished second in 2018. Madison Jenkins won at No. 3 singles for the Spartans, Liz Vandevelde won at No. 4 singles and Warner Johnson at No. 5. Karcher and Vandevelde teamed to win the No. 1 doubles title. Sully Ferreira and Kate Jeffcoat won at No. 3 doubles for Mountain Brook.

The championship Tuesday is the 167th sports championship in Mountain Brook High School's history, the most by any school in Alabama.
