Taco Mama Expands Again, Now in Downtown Birmingham

A taco restaurant that started in Crestline Village has expanded beyond Mountain Brook, and is now downtown.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A Mountain Brook restaurant has expanded again, as Taco Mama - which opened first in Crestline Village in 2011 - is growing its footprint even further across the metro area and opening a location in downtown Birmingham. The new restaurant is in the new Waites building and opened today.

"We are thrilled to be opening our sixth location and to be joining the downtown Birmingham community,” said Will Haver, founder and owner of Taco Mama. “Big things are happening downtown, and we knew we had to be a part of it. When the opportunity to join the retailer lineup at The Waites presented itself, we knew it was one we couldn’t miss.”

Taco Mama looks to bring another casual dining option to the community of downtown Birmingham and its growing academic, medical, financial and professional communities. The new location will create more than 25 positions for the local economy. Since its highly successful debut, a second location in Tuscaloosa was opened in March 2014 followed by a location in Huntsville in September 2014. Most recently, Taco Mama established two additional locations in Birmingham – one in the Edgewood neighborhood of Homewood that opened in January 2016 and the other at The Summit that opened in July.

Named after the former Waites Bakery, The Waites building features more than 16,000 sq. ft. of ground floor retail space with 45 apartments on floors two, three and four. Taco Mama joins Farm Burger, Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza and Smoothie King as retail tenants.
