Trendon Watford Repeats As Alabama's Mr. Basketball

For the second year in a row, Mountain Brook's Trendon Watford was named Mr. Basketball in Alabama.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - One of the biggest mysteries in high school basketball in the country is where Mountain Brook star Trendon Watford will play his college basketball next season. What is not a mystery is who the top player in the state of Alabama is. Watford was named Alabama's Mr. Basketball for the second consecutive year, the Alabama Sports Writers Association announced Tuesday.

Watford led the Spartans to their third straight state championship this season, and did so in dominating fashion. Watford averaged 23.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.1 steals and 2.5 blocks per game for the Spartans.

Watford also was named Class 7A Player of the Year at the annual ASWA awards banquet Tuesday.

Watford joins an elite list of winners of the Mr. Basketball award. Past winners include NBA players JaMychal Green, Richard Hendrix, Stanley Robinson, Gerald Wallace, Terry Coner, Buck Johnson, Ennis Whatley, Eddie Phillips, Mike Davis and Reggie King.

Watford has said he will make his college decision April 20, and will choose between Alabama, LSU, Duke, Indiana and Memphis.
