New Thompson High School Set to Open

The new Thompson High School in Alabaster will officially open February 26.

ALABASTER, AL - The wait is over for residents of the city of Alabaster, as the new Thompson High School is set to officially open in less than a week. The February 26 opening date means that students will be able to move into the new school to begin March.

The $88 million new school is conveniently located within a mile of the existing high school which was built in 1986 for a maximum of 800 students but now serves nearly 1900. This new facility is designed to serve 2000 students. Students from Thompson Middle School and the Thompson Sixth Grade Center will move into the old Thompson High School, and Thompson Intermediate School students will move into the current Thompson Middle School building.

The school was scheduled to open in time for the 2-17-2018 school year to start, but was delayed until December, then delayed again until February at the request of the architectural firm, McKee and Associates, and the construction management team from Volkert.
