Pelham Drug Take-Back Day Set For Oct. 27
Citizens can dispose of their outdated and unused prescription drugs at several locations in Shelby County.

PELHAM, AL - With drug abuse one of the major issues facing communities nationwide, law enforcement is taking a variety of steps toward making their communities safer when it comes to prescription drug abuse. One method used in law enforcement offices throughout the country is the implementing of a "Drug Take-back Day," wherein citizens can clean out their medicine cabinets at home and dispose safely unused or outdated prescriptions drugs.
The Pelham Police Department announced that October 27 will be their Prescription Drug Take-back Day, and residents can drop off their medications they are no longer using at several locations throughout Shelby County.

Drop-off locations include:
- Pelham Police Department, 32 Philip Davis Street
- Greystone YMCA, 5414 US 280
- Hoover City Hall, 100 Municipal Lane
- Target, 250 South Colonial Drive
- Montevallo Drug, 3990 Alabama Highway 25
- Winn Dixie, 150 Chelsea Corners Way
According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
