• Selma City Council approves $21.26M budget (selmatimesjournal.com) — Selma's City Council has approved a $21.26 million general fund budget for the 2027 fiscal year, aiming to start with a small surplus instead of a deficit. The plan trims most departments by 2%, shifts police overtime, eliminates the animal shelter line, and boosts funding for sewer maintenance and other key public works needs.
   

• Selma business owner makes donation to Selma University (waka.com) — Selma readers will be glad to know longtime local businessman and Selma University alumnus Willie Smiley has donated $12,000 to help current Selma-U students cover tuition, housing, and meals. University president Dr. Stanford Angion says the gift, and Smiley's example of giving back, could inspire more hometown support for business education and entrepreneurship in Selma.
