5 Things To Know About The New City Of Northport Logo
The Northport City Council on Thursday approved a new logo for the city as it looks to rebrand with an updated image.

NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport City Council unanimously approved a new logo to represent the city on Thursday, as officials look to rebrand the city's image to visitors and residents alike.

City Engineer Tera Tubbs made the presentation to the Council ahead the vote, and explained the design of the logo and the inspiration for how it all came together.

5 things to know about Northport's new logo
- Northport, in the 1800s, was considered the northernmost point on the Black Warrior River, Tubbs pointed out, making it crucial location for navigation. This inspired the arrow pointing north on the logo.
- The logo also includes a compass rose, which is used to find direction and in navigation.
- A new tag line is incorporated into the logo, which reads "Find your true north." Tubbs went on to define a sense of true north, with the hope that Northport can be that beacon of home for many visitors and its residents.
- If you hadn't already made the connection, the blue color featured in the logo is nearly identical to that representing Tuscaloosa County High School.
- The new logo is expected to appear on new signage around the city and at the Northport Civic Center and City Hall, following extensive exterior renovations to the building. Tubbs said the city has reached out to a couple of sign companies about new signage for the city. The new logo will not serve as a replacement for the city seal, rather it will be used for marketing purposes.
