No Arrests After 7 Injured In Tuscaloosa Block Party Shooting, Including Juveniles

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Seven people, including juveniles, were injured in a shooting late Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, with police saying Sunday morning that all of the victims are now in stable condition.

As Patch previously reported, the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting, which occurred in the 2600 block of 22nd Street in an area where an outdoor neighborhood block party had been held earlier Saturday.

VCU Captain Marty Sellers told local media in an update Sunday morning that Tuscaloosa Police officers were called to the area at 10:48 p.m. following reports that multiple people had been shot.

Sellers said officers arrived to find a large crowd and began providing medical aid to victims until Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service and NorthStar EMS arrived.

He then said seven people were injured, including juveniles, and three initially suffered serious injuries.

However, Sellers said early Sunday morning that all seven victims were reported to be in stable condition.

The shooting happened near the site of a neighborhood block party that had been permitted by the City of Tuscaloosa until 10 p.m., less than an hour before officers were dispatched to the shooting.

Sellers said investigators have spoken with multiple people who were at the scene and are continuing efforts to identify and interview additional witnesses.

He also said several unoccupied vehicles were struck by gunfire.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit and Tuscaloosa Police Department's Crime Scene Unit responded to investigate, while the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office and University of Alabama Police Department assisted TPD with securing the scene and managing the large crowd.

Sellers said law enforcement also responded to DCH Regional Medical Center to manage the crowd there as victims were treated.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday morning and investigators have not released information regarding a possible suspect or what may have led to the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing.
