70s Soul Jam Cancels Tuscaloosa Amphitheater Concert

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Amphitheater announced Tuesday morning that The 70s Soul Jam concert scheduled for Oct. 1 has been cancelled, marking the second major scheduling shakeup for the 2021 concert season in as many weeks.

The venue says tickets purchased online and by phone will be refunded automatically, while tickets purchased at the box office should be returned to the point of purchase to obtain a refund.

The large-scale production was set to feature acts such as The Stylistics, Delfonics featuring William Hart, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, Enchantment, Blue Magic and Jimmie "JJ" Walker.

It's unclear at this time what prompted the decision, which is the third major rescheduling or cancellation for the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater this concert season, following the announcement last week that Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band's show for September had been pushed to June 2022. Country artist Jon Pardi was forced to reschedule his Tuscaloosa concert in August due to health reasons, which also delayed the return to live music for the venue.

Concerns over the Delta Variant of the coronavirus, which appears to be spreading at a much more progressive rate than the original strain of the virus, have also been realized over the last month as hospitalizations surged for Tuscaloosa from single digits in July to a staggering 149 as of Monday.

This news has had no impact, though, on the current slate of entertainment for the upcoming weekend in Tuscaloos, with Harry Connick Jr. set to take the stage Friday night, followed by Lady A on Saturday.
