Alabama, led by second-year head coach Nate Oats, hopes to build on the momentum from its season-opening 81-57 win at home over Jacksonville State on Nov. 25.

In a series of video comments from Asheville, Oats praised the Tide's defense in its opener, but admitted the offensive side of the ball had lagged behind.

Despite holding the lead against JSU for more than 37 minutes, the Tide logged 19 turnovers compared to the Gamecocks' 10. Offensive struggles for Alabama were also evident in subpar shooting as the team went 33-for-77 from the field and a forgettable 7-for-31 from behind the arch.

"If we can play that good a defense against Jacksonville State, now we've got to prove we can do it against a Power 5 school like Stanford," Oats said. "So, we’re really trying to get them locked into the defensive end and really having confidence that our shots will fall on offense will help our offense go a lot smoother."

In the win over JSU, Alabama sophomore guard Jaden Shackelford grabbed the first double-double of his career with 18 points and 11 rebounds and was joined by senior forward Herbert Jones, who finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds on the night. The Tide also saw offensive production from sophomore guard Jahvon Quinerly, a Villanova transfer and 2018 McDonald's All-American who managed 18 points and a team-high three assists in his debut performance for the Tide.

Senior guard John Petty Jr. also hit double figures in the win, notching 14 points.

Tonight's matchup will be the fourth meeting of Alabama and Stanford and the first since a second round NIT game in Tuscaloosa in 2013 that saw the Tide win 66-54. In the series, the Cardinal has never beaten the Crimson Tide.

Stanford is led by fifth-year head coach Jerod Haase and returns four of its five starters from a year ago, when the Cardinal finished 20-12 overall and 9-9 in PAC-12 play. Stanford's lineup will also feature PAC-12 Preseason All-Conference honorees senior Oscar da Silva and freshman Ziaire Williams.
