Plans also include an additional eastbound left-turn lane from McFarland Boulevard onto Skyland Boulevard.

ALDOT said access management is a traffic engineering strategy that redesigns roadway access points along heavily traveled corridors to improve safety and mobility.

Officials also noted that studies by the Federal Highway Administration have shown effective access management can reduce crash rates by as much as 50 percent while improving traffic flow.

ALDOT estimates show the corridor currently carries more than 20,000 vehicles per day

Project maps and comment forms will also be available online for those unable to attend the meeting.
