"I appreciate the trust that my colleagues have in me," Almond told Patch on Thursday. "We are fortunate to have a great group of local elected officials who work well together. I plan to keep us all moving forward together so that we can advance causes that are important to the people of Tuscaloosa County.”

The six-member House committee consists of the area's two Democratic representatives and four Republican members.
Almond, a Republican from Tuscaloosa, ran unopposed in 2021 to fill the District 63 House seat vacated by Bill Poole after he was appointed state finance director by Gov. Kay Ivey last summer.

In October, Almond had the distinction of being the first woman sworn in to represent District 63 in the state legislature.
Prior to her election to the legislature, Almond was elected to the Tuscaloosa City Council in 2005 and never saw another challenger on the ballot for the rest of her time in local office, which included serving as the Tuscaloosa City Council president.
This trend would continue when she announced her candidacy for the House of Representatives in June 2021, after opting to not to seek another term in 2021. Almond is set to serve the remainder of Poole's unexpired term, which will be up for election in November 2022.
Thursday marks the fifth day of the first special session of Alabama legislative, with both chambers convening today at 9:30 a.m.
